Brantford Cannabis Culture dispensary shut down
Brantford Police raided and shut down a Cannabis dispensary in West Brant Wednesday.
The store, Cannabis Culture, had just opened on Sunday. It is one of several Cannabis Culture stores across Canada owned by Marc and Jodie Emery.
Police said they arrested a 35 year old Stoney Creek man and charged him with posession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking after they determined the store was selling pot to customers without a medical license.
The raid brought out crowds of protesters opposing the actions of police.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised to legalize recreational use of marijuana by this spring.

Iroquois communities unified in opposing transport of uranium across St.Lawrence and Great Lakes
The Iroquois Caucus says it is unanimously condemning a plan to move radioactive liquid from Chalk River, Ontario across the International border to South Carolina, using public roads and bridges.
The Caucus says the transport is unprecedented and could have a devastating impact on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River ecosystem should a spill occur.
That waterway provides drinking water for an estimated 40 million people on both sides of the border.
Kanesatake Grand Chief Serge Simon says the approval of the transport by federal regulators is reckless and irresponsible when more sensible solutions are available.

The suspect entered Stand Variety on Lida Sreet at around 9:15pm Monday evening, placed an object in the door jam propping the door open and entered the store wearing a gas mask and carrying a large metal pipe.
He demanded money from the clerk. He then fled the store and was last seen running northwest on Lida Street.
Police have released a security camera image to help identifying the suspect. He is described as wearing a dark coloured black or blue winter jacket, brown jeans, black gloves and brown work boots. He was carrying a camoflauge bag with a black strap.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Brantford Police.

Standing Rock evictions, journalists targeted
More water protectors at Standing Rock were arrested yesterday as heavily armed Morton County police in riot gear carried out an eviction order to remove people from the opposition camps.
Ten people were arrested at the site with reports of a man having his hip broken by police.
Journalists present at the raid said several independent and left leaning journalists on site documenting the eviction actions were targeted by police and their equipment seized.
North Dakota’s Governor ordered the eviction of people from the unceded Sioux lands, saying the action was necessary due to safety concerns of potential flooding in the area unrelated to the Dakota Access pipeline’s easement grant to complete the pipeline.
