Ontario funds new Welcome Centre in Akwesasne

Ontario announced it is investing $175,000 to help establish a new Welcome Centre located at the Peace Tree trade Centre on Cornwall Island in Awkwesasne.
The centre opened to visitors in October 2015 and features local artists, promotes local businesses and supports local tourism and events.
Minster of Aboriginal Affairs David Zimmer said the Welcome Centre helps to increase local economic activity ensuring prosperity for the future of Akwesasne.
Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, Abram Benedict said he was pleased in partnering with the province to establish the Welcome Centre, and says it is another step forward to showcase the good things happening in the community.
