The Chairperson of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Justice Murray Sinclair, has been appointed to the Senate of Canada.

Sinclair was one of seven new appointments to the Senate.

AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde congratulated Sinclair’s appointment, saying he has “demonstrated a life-long commitment to justice for First Nations and reconciliation between Indigenous peoples and all Canadians.”

Sinclair said he was grateful for the appointment and saw it as a sacred honour.

Sinclair said he remains committed to reconciliation between indigenous and non indigenous people. And believes this is a new era of relations with indigenous people in Canada.
