Canada not providing immediate funding relief to First Nations children in care

00

National advocate for First Nations Child Welfare equality, Cindy Blackstock, says Canada is not doing its part to provide immediate relief remedies to First Nations child welfare.

The First Nations Caring Society, Assembly of First Nations, Canadian Human Rights Commission and Chiefs of Ontario have all submitted replies to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, saying funding for the First Nations Child and Family Services in the 2016 budget was not sufficient to implement the changes upheld by the Tribual decision earlier this year.

The tribunal ruled that Canada was guilty of racially discriminating against indigenous children when it comes to funding for child welfare.

The Tribunal decision ordered Canada to immediately remedy those inequities.
