Ontario chief hopeful after Canada endorses UNDRIP

Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day says Canada fully accepting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is a turning point in the relationship between Canada and indigenous people.
The International Declaration is built on the premise of Free, Prior and Informed Consent — that Indigenous Peoples not only have the right to participate in decision making, but also have the right to a final say in matters that affect their lives, their lands and communities.
Day said he is hopeful the adoption of the UNDRIP will be the beginning of indigenous people enjoying full participation in decisions affecting the land, our rights and our future.
