Ontario to offer social assistance payments through reloadable credit card

00

Ontario will now offer disability recipients the option of receiving their benefits on a reloadable payment card.

The card, provided by the Royal Bank of Canada, works like a debit card but does not require a bank account.

The province will phase the new cards into use. Clients can volunteer to test the reusable payment card method of receiving their benefits.

Dr. Helena Jaczek, Minister of Community and Social Services, said the reloadable card is one way the province is moving social assistance programming into the 21st century to best help their most vulnerable clients
