Indigenous and environmental activists in BC are blocking a salmon farm — saying the farm threatens wild salmon in the area.
The group of traditional people from three first nations communities are demanding a ban on open net fish farming in the area around the Marine Harvest fish farm.
Protesters set up camps surrounding the farm after video was released showing the fish in the facility were blind, deformed and diseased.
Protesters say they will not leave until the province and federal government revoke the facilities permits.
The city of Los Angeles has voted to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day.
City council voted 14-1 to make the second Monday in October a day to celebrate indigenous culture. Officials say it will be a paid holiday for city employees.
LA is the latest city in a swoop across the US to stop celebrating Christopher Columbus.
