Standoff with police in Brantford Saturday evening results in one arrest
A 49 year old Brantford man is under arrest for Assault With a Weapon and Mischief after an eight hour standoff with police on Saturday night.
Police said around 8pm the man was drinking with two other people in a Terrace Hill apartment when an argument broke out and he assaulted a female with a stick.
The female victim was transported to the BGH were she was treated and released.
When police attended to arrest the male he barricaded himself in his apartment and advised he had a gun and was going to become violent and hurt neighbours and officers.
Investigation revealed that male had recently been seen with a handgun.
Police blocked off Terrace hill Street and the surrounding areas as a precaution, evacuating neighbours from adjacent apartments.
Crisis negotiators and the Emergency Response Team were called in and negotiated with the male for eight hours.
At approximately 4am the male walked out and was arrested without incident.
A search of the apartment did not reveal a firearm.
