Canada Census will not come to Six Nations
Six Nations Elected Council said they will not be allowing Statistics Canada to enter Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.
The Elected Council was approached by Statistics Canada for approval to go door-to-door throughout the community and have residents participate in the Canadian Census of Population program.
Members of the community of Six Nations have a long standing opposition to participating in the census.
Elected Council said our of concern for the privacy of community members and the information being asked of them that they “will not be allowing Statistics Canada to enter Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.”
The federal government previously announced it would be travelling in advance through First Nations communities with the census translated into several indigenous languages to encourage indigenous people participate.
