Leaders optimistic after national forum on indigenous issues
Indigenous leadership from organizations across several nations met with Canadian Ministers of Aboriginal Affairs in Ottawa Friday to establish framework for a new Federal, Provincial, Territorial and Indigenous Forum.
The Forum welcomed members of the Assembly of First Nations, Metis National Council, Tapiriit Kanatami, Indigenous Peoples Assembly of Canada and the Native Women’s Association of Canada.
Plans on how to pursue reconciliation with Canada on a number of national issues was settled – including the upcoming inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
President of the Native Women’s Association of Canada, Dr. Dawn Lavell-Harvard said she is optimistic indigenous women’s voices will be heard, and respected throughout the process.
