Minister looking at improving funding delivery for urban indigenous people
00
Minister of Indigenous Affairs Carolyn Bennett was in Montreal late last week to take part in roundtable discussions to better flow funding to urban indigenous people.
Over 50 per cent of Canada’s Indigenous peoples live in urban centres. Currently, the Urban Aboriginal Strategy provides project funding for programs and services that help increase the participation of urban Indigenous peoples in the economy.
Budget 2016 provided a $23.7 million renewal of the Urban Aboriginal Strategy for 2016-17, bringing the total funding level for this year to $53.1 million.
