Report says First Nations have higher cancer risk
00
The Chiefs of Ontario have released a joint report with Cancer Care Ontario, saying First Nations people in Ontario have a higher prevalance of cancer risk factors than those of other backgrounds.
Carmen Jones, Research Manager for the Chiefs of Ontario said the report is vital evidence that can help inform the development of cancer screening and prevention initiatives for First Nations communities.
The data shows that urgent action is needed to improve the health of First Nations in Ontario, including a need to develop culturally appropriate policies and programs to support individuals, families and communities in making healthy choices.
