Leader of the NDP Tom Mulcair will be stepping down after party membership called for a change.

NDP National Director Karl Belanger thanked Mulcair in a written statement for his work on behalf of the NDP — and said the months ahead will be focused on rebuilding and strengthening a collective vision for the future.

Mulcair accepted the decision of the party and said he will remain in his current position until the party collectively agrees on a new leader.
