Treaties to be recognized across Ontario

Ontario has passed new legislation to bring awareness to the treaty relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the province.
Treaties Recognition Week will be celebrated in Ontario the first week of November each year.
Treaties Recognition Week will provide a recurring opportunity for people to learn about the 46 treaties that cover the province.
Minister of Aboriginal Affairs David Zimmer said treaties are the foundation of Canada and Ontario as they exist today.
This is the first legislation of its kind in Canada.
