Mainstream newspapers not covering indigenous news well, report says

A new report says mainstream Canadian newspapers are not devoting enough of their resources towards covering indigenous issues properly.
The report from York University studied over 30,000 articles bout indigenous people from the major daily English language newspapers in Canada from 2006-2015.
Nearly half the stories about indigenous people and their communities did not include the opinions or voices of indigenous people from those communities.
The report identified consistent gaps and distortions in mainstream coverage of indigenous news.
The report said mainstream print media’s coverage has improved in quality and accuracy since the public discourse about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Canada began.
