#OccupyINAC in sixth day, demonstrations across Canada
Support for indigenous people taking action across the country continued to pour out across social media this weekend, calling for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to go to Attawapiskat.
Indigenous people and allies held demonstrations in Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Regina, Gatineau and James Bay in a show of solidarity with the people of Attawapiskat – and calling for an end to the Indian Act in Canada.
Indigenous and Northern Affairs announced they would be closing their offices in Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and Gatineau on Friday in anticipation of the demonstrations.
Supporters in Winnipeg released an official statement of solidarity with the communities of of Attawapiskat and Pimicikamak. Both of the remote northern communities have declared a state of emergency due to suicide epidemics among youth.
Occupy INAC in Toronto is now entering its sixth day.
